1. Getting thinner: I have been agonizing over a recent weight gain. My tummy is showing again. Anyone else feel this way? I discovered Hungrygirl.com, a great website with some wonderful tips on how to control calorie intake. My favorite page is “News.” It lists all kinds of supermarket products you can buy with little or no preparation that are all low-cal. For those of you who like to cook, some really easy recipes are updated daily.

2. Upgrade your bread: A nutrition professor says bread should have at least three grams of fiber per slice with 80-100 calories per slice. Two brands recommended are Food for Life sprouted grain bread (available at Vitamin Cottage) and Beefsteak Light Soft Rye (go to foodfacts.com). I’m changing my breakfast bread today! Another tip: When dining out, select bread with visible grains or seeds, which usually means it has more fiber.

3. Big lunch: Ladies, forget the tiny luncheon salad and six diet cokes.  Nutritionists recommend eating a huge lunch so that you don’t binge at dinner because you have starved yourself all day. Eat some protein and/or veggies before dinner to partially fill up to avoid major consumption at supper.

4.  Get more sleep: Studies show that sleeping less than 7 hours a night leads to food and sweets cravings.  Finally eat more eggs and fruit when you can.  Research shows these can help with weight loss.
