Foundation garments, girdles, shapewear … whatever you call them – these undergarments have traditionally been part of the world of women’s fashion; a little secret that the ordinary women and famous actresses share alike. Not any more. Now men’s shapewear, designed to hold in their guts, lift saggy chest muscles and tighten waists has arrived in the men’s department.
According to the New York Times, ”A Saks Fifth Avenue, the hottest new style is an undershirt from an Australian company called Equmen, which purports to improve posture and reduce back pain, in addition to making a man look slimmer. The shirt, which looks roughly like a bicyclist’s jersey, is made of a blend of polyester, nylon and spandex and costs $89 to $119, depending on the style and color. Saks has sold more than 30 percent of its stock in four weeks.”
Spanx, and Yummie Tummie, two companies that sell their popular shapewear to women, are jumping into the market. Yummie Tummie has debuted a men’s line called Ript Fusion – an undershirt with a polyester and spandex panel that stretches across the belly ($58).
One more thing you can do with the man in your life ladies — shop for girdles together. Awww…
