Changes at Tiffany starting with handbags

Tiffany, the most famous jewelry store in the world. is branching out into handbags and leather goods.  Going…going…gone are the table top, silver and crystal houseware departments. (Fewer brides are registering at Tiffany these days.)  In their place are purses, wallets and organizers designed by well-known leather goods gurus Richard Lambertson and John Truex. Some interesting facts about Tiffany’s top selling items

  • Roughly 90 percent of sales are from its lowest price items:  sterling silver jewelry with no gemstones priced around $200.
  • Bridal jewelry makes up a fifth of all sales.  Average price: $3,300.

Will these new handbags become the “it” bags of 2010-11?  At $595 for the larger more stylish tote in the famous Tiffany blue, we are betting yes.   Women may justify the price because the bags are reversible and they are getting two bags for the price of one. Other features include: Suede and metallic leather with palladium-plated solid brass hardware. Detachable zipper pouch included.
