Wedding Cocktail Reception

Hi,
My husband and I are invited to a cocktail wedding reception at 4 p.m. on a Saturday in September.  The groom works for my husband.  I don’t know what is appropriate for me to wear.  The 4 p.m. and the “cocktail” part throws me.  Please help!

It sounds like you are invited to the reception and not the wedding and because the invitation says “cocktail” you will see some very dolled-up, glittery dresses, we suggest that you be more understated.  Don’t be too summery, it is September.  How about a dress in a dressier fabric, not casual cotton.  It can be long or short, print or solid, fashion-forward of classic.   Don’t forget that your boss is the boss and a suit is appropriate for him.  Also, if you can find dressy separates, this will work too.  Enjoy the event.
